DISCOVER SELF & STORY EDUCATION

Liz Newman - founder of Self & Story Education
Having always loved writing and English growing up, I went on to study English with Creative Writing after leaving school, graduating with a First Class degree from the University of Nottingham. After spending time working for the British Council in India, I trained as a Secondary School English teacher at the University of Oxford and gained my PGCE.
Although my years teaching in the UK state sector in Oxford were both hugely rewarding and challenging, my perpetually itchy feet soon led me to Asia. There, I taught the International Baccalaureate at a prestigious British International School. It was during this time that I considered offering creative writing workshops accessible to students around the world, designed to help young people recognise the power of their own voices while developing critical skills to strengthen and enrich their learning in English.
I am now based in Oxford permanently, but support schools around the world to run professional development sessions for staff and all kinds of creative writing workshops for students aged 11-18, adapted to each school's individual context.
Our PD and resources are backed with current educational approaches, and are designed to help students understand writer's craft, use their own creativity, and inform their own personal responses to texts studied.
