SUPPORTING SCHOOLS
Self & Story Education offers creative writing resources and workshops centred around identity and belonging for students aged 11-18 in the UK and worldwide. We are dedicated to empowering students and teachers around the world through creative writing, and we believe that children's individual voices matter now more than ever.
With a decade of experience in the UK and International Education sector, Self & Story recognises the need for students to have creative outlets which complement rather than compete with their academic studies. Our workshops and resources aim to help students understand their worldview and connect with themselves, as well as building skills necessary for critical thinking and interpretation.
Most importantly, though, we hope to build confidence in young people, and foster a lifetime love of reading and writing.

Reclaiming Imagination
Whilst we know that AI is a helpful tool in so many contexts, we want to retain a sense of human connection and authenticity. Our workshops remain AI free so that students are challenged to think creatively and re-connect with their imaginations.

Creative Writing Strengthens Critical Thinking
Creative Writing Transfers Across Subjects
Students with stronger creative abilities tend to produce more coherent arguments and more conceptually rich written responses.
(Shaber et al., 2025 – Education Sciences)
Creative writing practices improve clarity, structure, and persuasive power in academic and analytical writing.
(Gilbert, 2025 – Oxford Handbook of Creativity and Education)

AI Can Shortcut Thinking
AI Reduces Originality Over Time
Students frequently describe AI‑assisted writing as “the easy way out,” reporting reduced effort and confidence in their own independent ideas.
(Habib, 2024 – University of South Carolina)
Experimental studies show that while generative AI can improve surface quality, it reduces originality and diversity by anchoring users to common ideas.
(Doshi & Hauser, 2024 – Science Advances)
